SECURITY RISK ACCEPTANCE
Acceptance is a Decision, not a silence.
Security risk acceptance is a governed Human Decision. It should not happen because a ticket aged out or a meeting ran long.
Argumont supports security analysis and decision-making. It does not guarantee security or replace qualified professional judgment where required.
Typical Decision
Patch now, isolate, compensate, or accept until a named window. The owner is often a CISO or service owner. Risk, legal, and the operational lead review residual exposure.
What must stay visible
The residual risk, the compensating control if any, who accepted it, against which Verdict version, and the review date. Adopting a Verdict does not automatically accept the risk.
How the method applies
Champion can defend the preferred control. Challenger attacks residual risk and change-induced outage. Red Teamer tries to break the plan. Inspector will not treat a scanner label as reachability. Judge can leave accept on the table.
A scanner label is not reachability
A scanner label is not reachability. If the organization accepts residual risk, the record should say who accepted it, against which Verdict version, and when that acceptance must be reviewed.
Champion and Challenger test the case, Inspector checks the evidence, and Judge records the Verdict for the Decision Owner.
Example acceptance Decision
Patch this week during a freeze, isolate the service, compensate, or accept until the next window. A scanner label is not reachability. If the organization accepts, the record should say who accepted and when that acceptance expires.
